The New Kid on the block.

Writing for me has always been that thing I did out of sight and mind of all others, although I loved literature and have consumed copious amounts of books over the years, like a lot of people I have always scoffed at the suggestion that I should publish.

Have you ever had that feeling when you had done something that you wished you hadn’t? I have been there a few times I can tell you. The publishing world is vast and ailen to me, It makes your head spin as you see what really goes on. Stick me in a room full of people with a few plants and some containers and I will talk for hours, and knock you up some pretty outstanding displays to boot. But talk about a book, What me?

That was an experience I had recently when I was invited to meet some people who were interested in my book, I read a few extracts, which was teriffying and then had to talk to the group about about why I did what I did, and write the way I have. It was a good experience that took me back to my early days in horticulture giving talks on hanging baskets, houseplants and Bonsai. It seemed to really hit the nail on the head for me, and highlight the huge differences between both industries. I have written a book it is true, but I also am aware that just getting through the process of trying to publish in the UK has been a very sharp learning curve, and I am sure I have many lessons along the road to learn. Falling flat on my face I can handle, so if I do it I will just jump back up and try not to do it again, I hope in many ways that it will be those moments that fuel the creative juices for this page.

To me I still feel very much on the outside looking in on the writers world, so it seemed like a good idea to note down my thoughts and experiences and hopefully some of the other people like me will understand my position and share their experiences on here. It can only do good as those coming along behind me will maybe have a place to sit a while and learn from what I have been through. My obsrvations on my progress to date and my progress in the future will be logged here for the world to view and if you agree say so, If you hate what I write then fine, I will of course state my case in my own defence, no matter what may come I hope it will benefit others.
